'Don't Repeat': Kerala HC Grants Bail To Santhosh Varkey Aka Arattannan

Kochi, Kerala: Kerala YouTuber Santhosh Varkey, popularly known as Arattannan was granted bail in the derogatory social media post case on Tuesday. The YouTuber, who gained popularity by reviewing newly released films, was arrested last month for allegedly posting objectionable remarks against women on Facebook.

While granting the bail, the Kerala High Court warned the YouTuber to refrain from making such derogatory remarks against women in the film industry.  Justice MB Snehalatha noted that the accused already spent 11 days in judicial custody and no further integration was needed.

The court pointed out that Prima facie, a Facebook post has been made by the accused and prima facie, a disparaging statement has been made by him, adding that the investigation was ongoing and the prosecution had no case for further detention.

The bail conditions includes refraining from making any similar derogatory comments on social media while the court  proceedings are pending.

The case stemmed from a Facebook post that Santhosh Varkey allegedly made on April 20, 2025, claiming that “all women in the cinema industry are prostitutes.” The post drew outrage from the public as well as the film personalities.

A female actor filed a complaint following which an FIR was registered against Santhosh Varkey. The case was lodged under Sections 75(3) read with 75(1)(iv) and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
