Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone Singh named their daughter as Dua Padukone Singh. Sharing the news, the couple posted on Instagram, “’Dua’: meaning a Prayer. Because She is the Answer to our Prayers. Our hearts are filled with Love & Gratitude”.

 

The name paints different picture from the convention, where the surnames are often based on the patriarchal system in the family. The stars put the mother’s surname ahead of the father’s in the daughter’s name.

While some came up saying that the stars named their daughter Dua Lipa, the British pop singer, some had issues with the said Arabic origin of “Dua”.

In Arabic, Dua means prayer.

Social media users took a jibe at the deteriorating freedom of everything in India, and the increased attack on minorities and Muslims.

Calling out the aversion towards anything Muslim in the country which has been blaringly visible for the past few years, the user directed his comment against “Bhakts”, and wrote, “Deepika and Ranveer have named their Daughter Dua Padukone Singh and Bhakts are enraged why they named her Dua which is an Arabic Word. Govt should start a Naming Board, on the Lines of Censor Board, fill it with RW and Celebrities need to get name of their Kids approved by them”.

 

Another user accompanied, saying that the said board will be deciding who is a “nationalist and anti-nationalist”.

One even posted a meme on UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

 

One wondered if the ones with Dua as surname has already been “banished from practising Hinduism?”

 

Another user expressed concern saying that no one can even joke about such things as “Nothing’s off-limits for the deranged”.

 

Another one pointed at the ‘Sanghis’ (Sangh Parivar members), a user wrote, “This educated Sanghis have problem with everything except their brain”.
