This Christmas won’t be as usual for the cine-goers. December 2023 is going to be much exciting for movie enthusiasts as the Christmas weekend releases are expected to escalate a melee for netizens and movie fans as the two highly anticipated movies, Shah Rukh Khan”s “Dunki” and Prabhas”s “Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire“, to hit the theaters across the world.
Dunki: A real ceasefire
Obviously Dunki will be this year’s ceasefire of King Khan as it is the third big release this year after the superstar’s Pathaan and Jawan. Shahrukh Khan”s first collaboration with director Rajkumar Hirani will hit theatre’s in 4 days. Dunki is a comedy-drama film, Directed and edited by Rajkumar Hirani and produced by Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan”s Red Chillies Entertainment. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan, Taapsee Pannu along with Vicky kawshal,Vikran Kochhar, Attila Arpa, Chris Kaye, Anil grover, Jeremy Wheeler and Boman Irani in significant roles.
Dunki’s Story is about four friends from a village in Punjab who share a common dream of going to foreign shores but they have neither the visa nor the ticket. It sets fire of hilarious and heartwarming saga of a dicey journey, perilous borders, inexplicable friendships, entrancing nostalgia for home, and love that towers above it all.
Shah Rukh Khan let the fans know the meaning of Dunki and wrote ‘being apart from your loved ones’, interesting fact is fans will come with loved ones to watch Dunki. How exciting!!
In an AskSRK session last month, Shah Rukh Khan was asked by a fan to describe the following films in one word: Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki. The actor used Hindi words to answer the question. For Pathaan, he wrote, “Dhuandhaar (Smashing).” For Jawan, Shah Rukh Khan”s word was, “Khabardaar (Beware)”. For Dunki, Shah Rukh Khan wrote, ” Pyaar sirf Pyaar (Love, only love).”
Salaar: There is no ceasefire!
How can the director Prasant Neel declare a ceasefire for Prabhas’ Salaar when the budget of the movie is 400 crores and the actor Prithviraj Sukumaran who plays one of the lead roles in “Salaar”, said that the movie will be offering a “Game of Thrones” style experience for the audience. So, absolutely there is no ceasefire!
Salaar marks the biggest collaboration of the two powerhouses of Indian cinema, the KGF director Prashanth Neel and “Baahubali” star Prabhas, who are coming together for the first time to create this extraordinary tale of rebellion and mega action-packed cinematic spectacle. Salaar is an epic action thriller stars Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles, Salaar’s casts include Shruti Haasan, Tinu Anand, Eshwari Rao, Jagapathi Babu, Sriya Reddy, and Garuda Ram.
Story of Salaar is about a gang leader who makes a promise to a dying friend on taking on other criminal gangs and that leaves this film a thrilling action extravaganza.
In a latest interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Prabhas shared how he prepared for his role, which is different from all the roles he has played so far and said, “The audience has never seen me play such a character. I am excited for them to see me on-screen in a new light.”

Dunki vs Salaar : The clash legacy
Dunki and Salaar have escalated their distribution, particularly in single-screen theaters, marking a significant clash release amidst the theatre owners are in dilemma of allocation for two super production houses while there are Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’ and Jason Momoa’s Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are still running with notable occupancy.
While multiplexes in North India have strategically allocated screening percentages—46% for “Dunki,” 30% for “Salaar,” and smaller portions for “Aquaman” and “Animal”, the scenario is different in the single-screen circuit in the country.

During an interview with Bollywood Hungma, “Salaar” producer Vijay Kirgandur addressed the potential conflicts between the film and “Dunki” over screen allocation, hinting at the possible “ugly fights”. He says the team “don’t want things to be ugly. We are already having meetings with the exhibitors and distributors. When we have a solo release, the occupancy generally will be around 60-70 percent. Some screens will go to “Aquaman”, but between Salaar and “Dunki”, we hope to get 50–50 screens in the best scenario. In such a scenario, if an occupancy of 90-100 percent is achieved, it’ll be a good result for both films.”

Shah Rukh Khan: The king of clashes

In 2012, Shah Rukh Khan’s Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Yash Chopra’s last directed movie clashed with Ajay Devgn-starrer Son of Sardaar and, again the King beat Devgn-Sanjay Dutt starrer in box office.
With Veer Zaara in 2004, Don in 2006, Mohabbatein 2000, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai 1998, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge 1995, Ram Jaane 1995 and Baazigar 1993, Shah Rukh Khan had proved in the past that he is the king of epic clashes.
What Dunki vs Salaar have in store…? Let’s wait for Christmas weekend.
