The Telangana government has officially announced the prestigious State Film Awards on Thursday, after renaming the event as the Gaddar Telangana Film Awards, in honor of the legendary poet Balladeer Gaddar.

Led by popular actress Jayasudha, who chaired a 15-member panel through an evaluation process, the jury reviewed 1,248 nominations across various categories, including feature films, documentaries, children’s films, and technical excellence.

While actor Allu Arjun was named Best Actor for his role as Pushpa Raj in Pushpa 2, Dulquer Salmaan bagged the Special Jury Prize for the film Lucky Baskhar, becoming the first Malayalam actor to win a Telangana state film award.

The mega-star Mammootty’s son was honoured for his subtle and stirring portrayal, winning filmgoers’ applause for its emotional depth. The jury appreciated the way the actor brought Baskhar to life, describing his performance as more than just acting but a portrayal of lived experience.

‘His ability to convey vulnerability without losing the core strength of the character struck a chord with both viewers and critics,’ the jury mentioned.

Dulquer has been growing as a pan-Indian actor since he has been making more films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.
