In his recent interaction with the Deccan Chronicles, Ravi Shankar said that the GBU team has secured no-objection certificates (NOC) from the music labels that own the rights to the songs.

Claiming that they have done things by the book, the producer stated that the required fees were paid and appropriate permissions were obtained from the respective music rights companies, dispelling any concerns regarding the legality of their use in the film.

Ravi Shankar also mentioned that the team has not yet received any official notice from Ilaiyaraaja. He further added that if they receive any notice, their legal team will respond accordingly.

Recently, reports claimed that veteran composer Ilaiyaraaja had issued a legal notice to the makers of GBU for the alleged unauthorised use of his songs. The film, which was aimed at paying tribute to Ajith’s 25-year journey in cinema, was sculpted with a sea of references about the actor’s filmography.

The film uses Ilaiyaraaja’s classic songs like “Otha Roobaiyum Thaarein,” “En Jodi Manjal Kuruvi,” and “Ilamai Itho Idho” to spread the essence of nostalgia, elevating the film’s narrative.
