Riding high on the success of his recently released Shah Rukh Khan potboiler, “Jawan,” director Atlee said he learned writing from ace Bollywood writer-director Rajkumar Hirani. During a conversation with News18, Mr. Atlee reminisced about the time when he was an assistant director to Nanban director Shankar and how he drew inspiration from the director of “PK” and “Munnabhai MBBS” while working on the remake of “3 Idiots.”
“I have learned writing from him. Nanban was the Tamil remake of 3 Idiots which was directed by Shankar sir and I was his writing assistant then,” Atlee told the news channel.
He added that he is aware of the nuances of the writing of Rajkumar Hirani and have taken inspiration from him. “I respect him as a man of writing,” the Tamil writer-director said.
Mr Atlee also said he is super excited for Hirani-Shah Rukh Khan project Dunki and added that he will watch the movie on the biggest screen when it releases, that too with the audience.
“Rajkumar sir had visited us on the sets of Jawan and he had seen the first reel of my film during the mixing. I love Rajkumar Hirani sir and I am eagerly waiting for Dunki,” he said.
Apart from Shah Rukh Khan, Dunki has Taapsee Pannu, Dia Mirza, Boman Irani, Dharmendra, Satish Shah, Parikshit Sahni and Vicky Kaushal (special appearance) as cast. The movie is written by Rajkumar Hirani, Abhijat Joshi and Kanika Dhillon, and jointly produced by Red Chillies, Rajkumar Hirani Films and Jio Studios.
The film is reportedly a comedy-drama about an illegal immigration technique named “Donkey Flight” and will hit the theatres in December this year.
