After the resounding success of its first instalment, My Melbourne, the landmark Indo-Australian film collaboration, is set to return with a powerful second edition. The new slate of directors includes cinematic stalwarts Rajkumar Hirani, Shoojit Sircar, Anjali Menon, and returning filmmaker Onir.

Produced by Mind Blowing Films and presented by the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne, My Melbourne is more than just an anthology; it’s a cultural bridge.

The first edition, released in March 2025, featured short films by Rima Das, Imtiaz Ali, Kabir Khan, and Onir, exploring themes of identity, gender, race, sexuality, and disability. The film received widespread critical acclaim and won Best Film at the UK Asian Film Festival.

Mitu Bhowmick Lange, CEO of Mind Blowing Films and creative producer of the project, shared with the media: “The response to My Melbourne has been overwhelming and deeply fulfilling. It proved that stories told with authenticity and heart can transcend borders. We’re honoured to welcome some of Indian cinema’s most acclaimed storytellers for the second edition. This continues to be a celebration of inclusivity, collaboration, and creativity, and a platform for emerging voices from underrepresented communities.”

Each of the four new directors brings a unique storytelling lens to the project. Rajkumar Hirani, known for classics like 3 Idiots, PK, and Dunki, expressed his excitement, saying, “My Melbourne offers a rare opportunity to tell a story that is intimate, universal, and culturally resonant. It’s a privilege to be part of a project that fosters empathy and connection through film.”

Anjali Menon, acclaimed for her films like Koode and Bangalore Days, added, “The themes behind My Melbourne align deeply with the kind of stories I love to tell, ones that build understanding and bring people closer. I’m thrilled to be part of this cross-continental journey.”

Shoojit Sircar, the director of Piku, October, and Sardar Udham, remarked, “Storytelling knows no boundaries. My Melbourne is a meaningful initiative that reminds us how local stories can have global significance.”

Onir, who returns to the project after his well-received contribution to the first edition, shared his thoughts: “This is a story that’s still unfolding. Coming back for the second chapter allows me to build on a journey I deeply believe in, working with new themes and voices in a truly collaborative space.”
