Even when success roars, the whispers of nepotism often echo on the path of the actors. The Chandu Champion star and acclaimed actor Kartik Aaryan opened up about the struggles of being an outsider in Bollywood and the shadows of nepotism, yet reminded the fact that hard work pays off.
Kartik, who is now a top star in Bollywood, started as a stranger in the Hindi film industry. Rose to fame with Pyaar Ka Punchnama (2011), the actor proved his excellence in the recent sports biopic. But he still believes he’s not part of the industry’s “inner circle” because he doesn’t have a famous family background. The actor said that it’s harder to get opportunities or have your work recognized when you’re not from the industry which ends up affecting one.

The actor also highlights that the impact of being an outsider often comes with mental health struggles. He shared that not having industry connections can be a heavy burden on his career and often wonders how easier his journey would have been if he had the same advantages as those with famous families in the industry.
He also revealed that being an outsider in Bollywood isn’t a bad thing, but rather a sign of his strength and determination. And this realization that “being an outsider is not a weakness,” comes with a lot of introspection and inner work., he added. Kartik states that he is now proud that his success comes from his own efforts, not from having famous connections.

The movie Chandu Champion is a sports biopic about Murlikant Petkar, India’s first Paralympic gold medal winner. Directed by Kabir Khan, the biopic released on June 14, receiving lots of acclamation. It is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
