The incredible story of Murlikant Petkar, India’s first-ever Paralympics gold medallist and Padma Shri recipient was brought to life in Kabir Khan’s directorial Chandu Champion.
The gist of the movie is a typical story of an underdog athlete who gets a chance on the world stage. Though it can be described as a cliché from its start to end, what made the movie different is that the film is about Murlikant Petkar, a war-turned-paralympic champion.

Chandu Champion is the second sports film under Kabir Khan’s directorial after 83. The film is a package of intense emotions, high drama, anthemic music, athletic action and comic interludes blended to capture a phenomenally eventful life, says NDTV.
The life of the athlete encounters several twists and turns. However, does the film gave complete justice to the real story is doubtful.
“This is the kind of film whose treatment, where everything you see is supported by dialogue, and lashings of obvious humour, makes it less than what it could have been: the beats are predictable, even as it gives us a likeable, inspirational hero we’ve never heard about,” The Indian Express reviews.

Commenting on the Climax scene, as per the India Today reviewer, though the audience knows who will have a Paralympic medal around his neck, the scenes before the event were completely emotional.
As per the Wion report, the film was not successful in setting up a lasting impression in the minds of the audience. The movie was too generic. Though Aaryan has pulled off his career-best performance in film, the predictable nature of the movie hindered it from being memorable.
