Vijay Sethupathi Starrer 'Maharaja' Gets A Stream Of Positive Reviews By Social Media

Maharaja, featuring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role is all about an intriguing crime thriller with a perfect script, according to social media reactions. The movie, helmed by Nithilan Swaminathan, hit the big screen today, amidst heightened expectations. The film notably marks actor Vijay Sethupathi‘s 50th work , charging the fans’ anticipation about the versatile actor’s performance

With the movie’s release today, social media have been flooded with reviews, mostly the netizens pouring praises for the actor’s exceptional performance and the movie’s brilliant story telling.

An X user, Laxmi Kanth, described the movie as “an intense and hard-hitting drama with a bloody brilliant screenplay.” Referring the Vijay Sethupathi’s performance, the user opined “a subtle yet terrific performance.” by the actor, noting the actor’s screen presence and body language. “A Linear narration would’ve made this an ordinary film but the non-linear narration made this a very interesting one. The pre-climinal portion staging & performance was top notch. Few cinematic liberties can be forgiven for this superbly constructed drama with well-written characters. Climax started like a cliched one but the ending was highly impactful,” he added.

Vijay, another X user, called the first half “a lot of puzzles,” while noting that each complexities are revealed slowly in the second half, moving the audience to the seat edge without making them bored. “A simple story that is conveyed in a non-linear engaging screenplay which surprises with its thrilling moments and a lot of twists and turns. The first half is filled with lot of puzzles. That is revealed slowly in the second half which moves the audience to the seat edge without getting any boring moments.” He also praised the lead actor’s performance, saying that Vijay “carried this movie on his shoulder.” He further noted the editing brilliance, calling the editor the “hero of the film. ”

Another user, DinaKaran, called the movie a gripping crime thriller. “Intriguing twists, solid first half, and an outstanding second half with masterful non-linear storytelling. Humour hits the mark early on, and the climax is top-notch. No fluff, just pure thrill. Kudos to Nithilan,” he wrote.

 

The movie cast Anurag Kashyap, Mamta Mohandas, Natty (Natraj), Bharathiraja, Abhiram, Singampuli, Aruldoss, Munishkanth, Vinoth Sagar, Boys Manikandan, Kalki, Sachana Namidass in pivotal roles. Music was composed by Ajaneesh Loknath while the Cinematography by Dinesh Purushothaman. The editing, which was praised in particular by some reviewers, was orchestrated by Philomin Raj.

The movie tells the story of Maharaja (Vijay Sethupathi), a barber, who is living with his daughter, Jyothi. The plot of the movie revolves around Lakshmi, an unknown thing confused as human or an object.  After a burglary robs the hero’s cherished ‘Lakshmi’, he files a missing complaint. The cop then tries to decipher whether ‘Lakshmi’ is an object, asset, or human which leads to a series of thrilling and suspenseful events. The mix of suspense, comedy, twists, and action scenes seems to have left the cinephiles in awe while catering all the cinematic experience.
