Vijay Sethupathi is gearing up for his next Bollywood project, Merry Christmas. In the Sriram Raghavan film, Katrina Kaif plays the role of opposite lead. Vijay is now reeling in the adulations coming his way from his Hindi audience. With a rich filmography in South film industry and ace performance in Jawan and Farzi, Vijay Sethupathi has become a go-to guy for strong author-backed roles. The actor accepts that he is only getting used to everything.
With his real and relatable look, Vijay Sethupathi has re-written the template on how a Bollywood actor should look like. He opens up about how sometime she felt self-conscious as he has the habit of wearing “chappals” at functions. Talking to Indian Express, he said he faced body shaming during earlier days. He said, though he was body shamed, now the audience started to accept him the way he is. He said, “it happened, but the good thing is that people accept you the way who you are. Today, wherever I go, I am accepted, it is a blessing, thanks to my audience…”
The Jawan star, who is steadily building up his Bollywood filmography, remarked that the love he receives from the audience is a proof that he is going in a “right direction”. He said, “receiving love from fans is like an energy drink…it gives you hope that your work has reached people and they have understood and they really like your work”, as quoted by Indian Express.
He said, when he first came to Mumbai for movies like Mumbaikar and Gandhi Talks, very few people recognized him, but now more people started to recognize him from Mumbai, and that makes him very happy. About his clothing choice, the Vikram star said that he is conscious about his costumes sometimes because, he “believe in wearing what I am comfortable in”. He said people often commented that he is “showing off”, or he is “too simple”. He then asked that “Does wearing slipper means slipper”. He admitted that sometimes he is conscious about that too. “I see people dressed up really well, and I get really conscious. So mostly I try to avoid going for get-togethers and meetings generally, otherwise I am comfortable”, he said.
Talking about his career plans in Bollywood, Vijay said he is not a person who would make plans and stick to them, and he likes the surprise brought in by the film industry, as “you don’t know who will surprise you”. He said, all of his movies were not as planned but “just happened”. According to the actor, he do not believe that he should have expectations, and the only expectation that he have is “whatever stories I do, it should entertain the audience and I can impress them”.
After the huge success from Jawan, in which he played the negative lead opposite to Shah Rukh Khan, Vijay is now getting ready for Merry Christmas with Katrina Kaif.
