The much anticipated Singham Again was released today. Helmed by Rohit Shetty, the film echoes the themes of the Ramayana, incorporated into the cop story. The film has a star-studded cast including Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Arjun Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff. This is the third film from the Singham trilogy.
According to the Times of India, the relentless action is wild, leaving little room for the story to breathe. The review said Shetty blended action with cultural revival nods to Ramayan and Kalaripayattu. The entire cast’s entries are whistle-worthy, playing perfectly to the gallery, but at the same time, some references to the Ramayan don’t quite land and feel forced into the narrative. The outlet said the movie is unabashedly entertaining, cheesy, and wild, with moments that will have you laughing out loud.

As per Hindustan Times, the film heavily relies on the epic Ramayana “to give the run-of-the-mill masala potboiler an update.” It said that while in most of the films, the first half will be engaging and the second half a disappointment, in Singham Again it is the opposite. It said the film’s attempt to link Ramayana’s story with Singham’s universe is novel, but the execution goes haywire. It takes forever to evoke the thrills we are seated for. The review also pointed out that the review has shown pretty much everything in the trailer does not help either.
NTDV called the film a “bloated, overheated, and scattershot addition to his (Rohit Shetty’s) Cop Universe.” “The lazy, lowest common denominator filmmaking that Singham Again resorts to sucks the power out of the police action thriller and leaves it gasping for breath—and genuine inspiration. The film throws in scenes from mythology—a narrator links one episode to another—to serve as parallels to the events unfolding in present times. The connection sought to be forged between myth and reality is overly stilted,” read an NDTV review.

According to Timeline, the film is not a brainless flick from the director’s cop universe but a pure and detailed political project designed to spread an ideology that helps the narratives of the ruling class, and incidentally just before Maharashtra assembly elections. It said each and every frame of Singham Again is camouflaged with political innuendos.
Timeline opined that Singham Again follows the footsteps of The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story, films often viewed as direct propaganda. While packaged as a mainstream Bollywood action thriller, the movie carries an overt ideological agenda, reflecting current political narratives in India.
