Did 'Singham Again' Use Ramayana As A Diwali Marketing Strategy?

Director Rohit Shetty is all set to launch his star-studded cop union Singham Again this Diwali. Amidst all the criticism the film faced since the release of the nearly five-minute-long trailer, a particular allegation made heads turn. The themes related to the epic Ramayana appeared to have been added last minute for its Diwali release, alleged many.

The film creatively features Ajay Devgn as Ram, Kareena Kapoor as Sita, Tiger Shroff as Lakshman, Ranveer Singh as Hanuman, and Arjun Kapoor as a modern-day Raavan. Responding to the same, one of the writers made an official statement over.

As the film gears up for its grand launch this Friday, Milap Zaveri, one of the writers of the film, rubbished the charges. In a recent interaction with Youtuber Siddharth Kanna, Zaveri made it clear that the film was always about Ramayana, even when it was scheduled for an August release.

Explaining the film’s setting, he said that the concept of the story is by Kshitij Patwardhan, and he already had the thought of merging the Ramayana with the Singham Cop universe, which was loved by Rohit Shetty. Highlighting the film’s initial Independence Day release schedule, the writer added that the film has nothing to do with Diwali.

Addressing the film’s postponement, he added that the film was delayed at the shooting stage. Claiming it was a coincidence, Zaveri cleared the rumours and said that the makers haven’t added Ramayana to encash Diwali. The Hindu epic was in the script right from the start, even when it was not prepared to hit the theatres on Diwali, clarified Zaveri.
