Actor Vinayakan, who primarily work in Malayalam film industry, was arrested on Tuesday by Ernakulam North Police for allegedly causing rucks at a police station. The state-award won actor became famous for the Indian movie fanatics after his highly-praised antagonist role in Megastar Rajinikanth’s recent blockbuster Jailer.
The actor is known released on bail after due procedures. “Actor Vinayakan was released on bail after a case was filed against him for a ruckus at a police station in an inebriated state”, said Prathapachandran, Circle Inspector of Police to the media. A case was registered against the actor for obstructing the station’s regular procedures and for assaulting a policeman. He was released on bail at 10.30 pm.
Mr Vinayakan had made a call to the police station over an alleged quarrel with his wife involving financial matters. The police took the statement of both and returned. Meanwhile, the actor who was unsatisfied, followed them to the police station.
The high drama he created on Tuesday evening at the police station eventually led to his arrest. He reached the station reportedly by 7.30 pm and started pronouncing abusive remarks at the police personnel over an argument. The video, in which Mr Vinayakan is seen in a squabble, went viral on social media. The footage clarifies that the police personnel tolerated him a while before booking him under abusive behaviour. He was then taken to the Ernakulam General Hospital and attended medical procedures.
On work front, Mr Vinayakan’s role in ‘Jailer’ has captured the hearts of many with his awestruck acting skills. The much-awaited Gautham Menon’s Dhruva Natchathiram’ trailer dropped on Monday hints Vinayakan to appear once again in villain role. The trailer promises to showcase Vinayakan as the main antagonist in the movie. He started his career with a cameo appearance in the 1995 Mohanlal starred film Maanthrikam. He secured the Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for his leading role of Ganga in the 2016 Rajiv Ravi directorial Kammatipaadam.
This is not the first time Vinayakan getting charged for misbehaviour. In 2019, he was booked for verbally abusing woman activist in an obscene manner. He allegdly used abusive words over phone, when she had invited him for a function in Kalpetta in April. Following a complaint filed against him, a case was registered under IPC sections 509 (word, gesture or act intend to insult the modesty of a woman) and 294 (B) (uttering obscene words) and section 120 (O) (causing nuisance to any person by repeated or undesirable or anonymous calls) of the Kerala Police Act. The actor was later given bail since he was booked under bailable offences.
In March 2022, he again set a controversy after responding to the #MeToo allegations surfaced against him. He was addressing a press meet on behalf of a movie promotion, and said that if he wants physical relationship with any women, he would directly ask them. He also added that, he is not aware of the #MeToo campaign. “If that is Me Too, I have done it”, he said then. Later he took to Facebook and apologised.
