The TIFF Screened Laapataa Ladies Beats Animal On Netflix
Laapataa Ladies of Kiran Rao has outshone Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal by setting the milestone of 13.8 Million views on the streaming giant Netflix within a month.
The Bollywood comedy-drama film Laapataa Ladies directed by Kiran Rao premiered on Netflix on 26th April, after it”s theatrical release last March. In less than a month this movie had outperformed Animal, the third highest-grossing film of 2023 with 13.8 million views, as Animal has 13.6 million views to date.
Kiran Rao has shared this exciting news on her Instagram story expressing her disbelief stating “Laapataa Ladies surpasses Animal in Netflix becomes 2024s Breakout Hits”.
Sandeep Vanga’s Animal was a blockbuster as it broke the box office collection immediately and ended its theatrical run with 900 crores globally. On the other hand, the Toronto International Film Festival released Laapataa Ladies made a little over 20 crores in its theatrical run. But the OTT phase of the film turned the scenario upside down with its highest viewership of 13.8 within a month, which took the film Animal 4 months to get 13.6 million.
The interesting fact about this breakout is that Laapataa Ladies being a low-budget movie has surpassed the 100-crore budget movie Animal on OTT platform. Since its release, the movie has garnered positive reviews from the audience for its engaging storylines, portrayal of women, and humor. Adapted from the acclaimed novel of award-winning Biplab Goswamy, this movie was directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Rao, Amir Khan, and Joyti Deshpande.
This adaptation of Biplab Goswamy”s novel is a comical tale of two young brides, which transports the viewers to rural India in 2001, as it follows the interesting story of two brides, who got lost on the same train, leading to a series of twist and turns as their husband embark on a search for the real bride. This film features Sparsh Shrivastava, Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goel, and Ravi Kishan in the lead roles.
