Amidst the continuing flak and massive outrage reaction against AR Rahman’s poorly conducted Chennai concert, singer Shwetha Mohan responded in support of AR Rahman, saying that he “deserves better, way better.”

AR Rahman’s concert, Marakkuma Nenjam, conducted on Sunday, September 10 at Chennai’s Adityaram Palace City, received heavy backlash for the terrible mismanagement. As the police suspect the overselling of tickets, the resultant overcrowding reports instances of molestation and groping of women who came to the concert.

As the controversy is still happening and people are not yet relieved from the horrible experience, Shwetha Mohan’s post in solidarity with women and in support of Rahman came in X (formerly known as Twitter) is not received well with internet users. Ms. Mohan, one of the playback singers in the concert, replies to the post where a woman narrates her traumatising experience of being molested and how the torment continues to affect her.

In response to the woman’s post, Ms. Mohan wrote, “Unable to ignore this tweet. For an icon who has stood for peace, love and humanity all his life, it is extremely unfortunate that this has happened at his concert where the music has always eased the pain for all attending.”

Then she adds, “Does ARR Sir deserve such perpetrators as fans attending his concert? He deserves better, way better. In every concert, he dedicates a song especially to women as a reminder to every man of the respect he needs to carry for every woman.”

She ends her post in solidarity with the survivor: “But Alas! Stay strong, #Singapenne!! We live in a heinous society. My heart goes out to you. Sending you energy to help overcome this and rise again! Unakkaaga Neeye Udippaai Amma.”

Her response has not received well with netizens. One user wrote: “He did this in Singapore, Malaysia, and now he”s doing it here! You guys don”t stand for people. You clowns. Take accountability and responsibility instead of whitewashing his image.”

“”He deserves better, way better…” Really? Truth is the audience deserved better arrangements. That”s it. That”s the tweet!,” another user reacted in the comment section.

Meanwhile, regarding the unfortunate incident, in an exclusive interview to The Hindu, Rahman told: “We will face this and fix it, because every soul is important to me. . . . We will, hopefully, not let this happen ever again.”
