Mr Goenka asked the comedian why other Indian comics, specifically Kunal Kamra is not commercially successful as him. Mr Das quickly replied, without any hesitation, “the word you are looking for is “yet”. There should be yet at the end of that sentence, why it has not happened for them yet, and I am sure, it will.”
He then continued by saying that he comes from the “most democratic profession.” One”s youth, looks, lineage or fame does not matter when one is on the stage, he added.
“Do you know what would happen if I walked on to a stand-up stage with an Emmy in my hand, it would make my job difficult. People will be like “we don”t give a sh** about this,” he said.
“Nobody is success in comedy at the expense of anybody”s success,” Mr Das claimed. He stated that there is enough laughter to go around, and there is enough audience to go around. Comparing to the crime shows, comedy clippings has lot of watchability in which viewers can go watch comedy five times a day.
“We have 1.6 billion people who are dying to laugh. It is the best time to be a comic. So it will happen,” he asserted.
This is the second time he had received an International Emmy nomination Previously, he has received nomination for a Netflix special titled Vir Das: For India.
