
Rekha Ji’s Umrao Jaan 4K Re-Release: A Night Of Timeless Grace & Stunning Beauties Who Lit Up The Evening
The iconic film Umrao Jaan (1981), starring the legendary Rekha, was re-released across PVR Inox theatres on June 27. Restored in 4K by NFDC-NFAI, this epic ode to grace and heartbreak has returned to the big screen, reminding audiences of a time when poetry, music, and cinema danced in unison.
The grand re-release event in Mumbai was nothing short of a royal affair. At the centre of it all was Rekha herself, the eternal enchantress, whose entrance silenced the room and stirred collective awe.

Dressed in a gold and ivory ensemble designed by Manish Malhotra, a respectful nod to her character’s regal aesthetic in the film, Rekha embodied the very soul of Umrao Jaan. Her jewellery mirrored the film’s original styling, and as she twirled gracefully for the paparazzi, time seemed to fold upon itself.

But one of the most heartwarming and talked-about moments of the night belonged to Tabu.
Clad in a rich red traditional ensemble, Tabu made a heartfelt entry, rushing into Rekha’s arms with pure affection, smothering her with hugs, kisses, and a soft “I love you” that left onlookers emotional.

The screening was graced by a constellation of stars and veterans from the Indian film industry. AR Rahman, Anil Kapoor, Hema Malini, Ila Arun, Talat Aziz, Mahima Chaudhary, and the director of the film, Muzaffar Ali, were present to honour the enduring legacy of the film and its star. A particularly tender moment saw Tabu rushing in to embrace Rekha, a heartfelt gesture that quickly turned into a shared photo opportunity that melted fans’ hearts.
Among the younger generation of stars, Alia Bhatt stood out as she paid tribute to Rekha with her fashion homage. Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Alia wore a soft pink saree reminiscent of Rekha’s iconic look in Silsila, complete with feather earrings and dewy makeup.
The resemblance was more than sartorial—it was a poetic salute across decades of cinematic femininity. Fashion critics and fans alike praised the ensemble as a “reference done right.”
Janhvi Kapoor, in a glittering traditional outfit, also turned heads. Her ensemble was rich with intricate work, exuding elegance and elaborate craftsmanship that spoke of timeless glamour.
