Remembering Sushant Singh Rajput On His Birthday
Sushant Singh Rajput remains a searing reminder of great loss for Bollywood. Though it’s been four years since the star left for his heavenly abode, memories of him remain fresh in hearts of friends, fans, and family. Today, January 21, marks his 38th birthday. On the occasion, his sister, Sweta Singh Kirti shared a throwback picture of him on her Instagram handle wishing her “Sona Sa Bhai” on his birthday. Sushant singh Rajput died of an alleged suicide on June 2020, while he was at peak of his success.

Sushant Singh Rajput was an illustrious actor of B-Town, who managed to captivate huge fan base within few years into film industry. He starred in number of commercially successful films like M S Dhoni: The Untold Story, Kedarnath, and Chhichhore.
Hailed from Bihar’s Patna, Rajput began his acting career by dropping out from Delhi College of Engineering. His debut work was Hindi television serial, Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil in 2008. He was casted in lead role in soap opera Pavitra Rishta from 2009-2011. The star’s debut Bollywood movie was Kai Po Che in 2013, which was an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s 3 Mistakes of My Life.
Sushant Singh Rajput rose to fame for his support role in Amir Khan’s PK, and his title role in M S Dhoni, a biographical sports drama of Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Rajput succeeded in copying even miniscule of Dhoni’s mannerisms in the movie, inking his talent in acting.
Sushant Singh Rajput is an avid reader, and his interests goes as deep as astrophysics. He even won National Olympiad in Physics. During one of his interviews with media, he revealed that he was not interested in engineering but went for it by heeding to the pressure from his family. he wanted to become an astronaut, and later an air force pilot. He said he was also passionate about Bollywood, as he was a great fan of Shah Rukh Khan.
The Raabta star’s personal relationship has always been talk of the town. His relationship with Ankita Lokhande, his Pavitra Rishta co-star was no secret to anyone. He publicly proposed to her on national broadcast on dance competition show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. The couple went into living together in 2012. The marriage rumour of the two had been on the table for several time. Reportedly, Rajput even confirmed about a lavish wedding in 2016, but their relations ended prior to that. The pair kept silent about the reason of their rift.
After his break-up with Lokhande, his relationship became subject of B-Town gossips for many times. He was rumoured to be dating almost all of his co-star including Kriti Sanon and Sara Ali Khan. The star denied the allegations. Later in 2019, it was reported that he was dating Rhea Chakraborty, Bollywood actress, and the pair had intended to keep the matter private. After his death, Rhea Chakraborty confirmed that she was his girlfriend.
Death
Sushant Rajput’s death still lies a mystery. Though it was alleged as a suicide, wide public opinions suggest that some two and two does not add up in the suicide claim. Rajput was found dead on June 14, 2020 at his Bandra home. Reportedly he had shown signs of clinical depression and had bipolar disorder. Postmortem report suggested that his death was due to “asphyxia due to hanging” (asphyxia is a condition of deficient supply of oxygen that comes as a result of abnormal breathing). Forensic medical team of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi confirmed his death was not a murder.
But Rajput’s family was not ready to accept his death as suicide. On July 25, 2020, his family lodged FIR in Patna police station, where Rajput’s father lives, accusing Rhea Chakraborty and five others of abetment of suicide. On July 31st, Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a case to investigate the money laundering of the star’s money from his bank account by Rhea, her parents and associates.
On August 19, 2020, Supreme Court of India allowed Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), (Indian national government’s top investigating agency) to take control of the investigation. Later, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) also filed a case against the alleged drug peddling, based on phone chats forwarded to it by ED during its investigation, as said by media report.
On September 8, Rhea Chakraborty was arrested by NCB in drug case to the investigation of Rajput’s death. Before she was arrested, nine others were arrested including her brother Showik Chakraborty. NCB claimed that Sushant Singh Rajput had been using several people to obtain drugs since 2018, and accused his flatmate and others of “aiding and abetting” Rajput to “extreme drug addiction”. Rhea Chakraborty and her brother was later released after spending 28 days in jail. CBI is still probing into Sushant Singh’s death.
However, the loss that came with the demise of Sushant Singh Rajput remains inexplainable for many. His death perfectly fit the phrase “gone too soon”.
