“She Was Friendly”: Swara Bhasker On Kangana Ranaut

Bollywood actor and activist Swara Bhasker was asked about BJP’s Mandi MP and actor Kangana Ranaut in the ongoing Hortus literary and cultural festival in Calicut on Sunday. The session was moderated by writer Shahina Rafiq.

“I don’t want to give them (media) headlines. I will be diplomatic. She was friendly and we got along well during the shoot of Tanu Weds Manu,” she said.

“But that happened before 2014. It happened in 2011. It was before Modi. It was the old India,” she added.

In June 2024, during an interview with Connect Cine, Sara slammed Kangana that she had justified violence online.

Swara mentioned Kangana’s past tweets including defending Will Smith’s Oscar slap in that interview. She pointed out that Kangana had defended violence and made inflammatory posts that led to her Twitter ban. Swara stressed that those who justify violence against others shouldn’t be outraged by Kangana’s experience.

Swara, who worked with Kangana on Tanu Weds Manu films also had slammed her former co-star for using her platform to condone violence.

The feud between Kangana and Swara began when Kangana called Swara a “B-grade actor.” They’ve had public disagreements on social media, especially about feminism and Bollywood nepotism.

In May 2024, in an interview Swara Bhasker clarified their differences, saying, “When Kangana speaks out, it’s to support those in power, but when I speak out, it’s to question them.” Swara emphasised that despite sharing their political views publicly, they have nothing in common.

Earlier, She had also mentioned she’s a fan of Rahul Gandhi, appreciating his vision and efforts for the country. She said that she had denied receiving offers from various political parties to join them.

However, during the Hortus literary festival powered by Malayala Manorama, she didn’t mention anything about it, despite a trivial sentence about her camaraderie with Kangana.
