Kangana Ranaut’s much-awaited film Emergency has finally hit the theatres on Thursday, and the results are quite impressive.
Despite being marred by controversy, the film has managed to secure Kangana’s biggest opening in five years with a whopping Rs 2.35 crore on its first day.
Emergency, which marks Kangana Ranaut‘s maiden solo directorial venture, revolves around the 1975 Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi.

The film has been in the news for its censor certificate controversy and allegations of misrepresenting the Sikh community.
The film’s opening day collection is a monumental achievement for her, especially considering Kangana’s previous solo releases.

Her 2023 film, Tejas, earned Rs 1.25 crore on its opening day, while her 2022 film, Dhaakad, earned Rs 1.20 crore. Emergency has surpassed both of these films making it Kangana’s biggest opening in five years.
However, the controversy surrounding the emergency has been going on for several months. In August last year, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) sent a legal notice to the film’s producers, alleging that it misrepresented the character and history of Sikhs.
The committee demanded that the film’s producers remove objectionable scenes depicting anti-Sikh sentiments.

Despite the controversy, Kangana has remained defiant stating that the SGPC’s demand for a ban on Emergency is a complete harassment of “art and the artist”.
This is complete harassment of art and the artist, from Punjab many cities are reporting that these people are not allowing Emergency to be screened.

The film’s release has been restricted in some parts of Punjab with many cinema theatres refusing to screen it. However, Kangana Ranaut has been actively promoting her film Emergency on social media platforms, encouraging her fans to watch it.
