Vicky Kaushal film Sam Bahadur, helmed by Meghna Gulzar released in Theatres on Friday. A biographic drama, where Vicky Kaushal portrayed the role of first Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw is receiving mixed response as initial reaction.

Nevertheless, fans and critics praises Vicky Kaushal”s performance in the movie, his acting prowess in excelling the character, Field Marshal with belief and strength. It was one of the challenging roles for the actor, and he depicted it to perfection, the reviews points out.

In the movie, Meghna Gulzar follows the life of Sam Manekshaw, India’s first Field Marshal and his 40 year old career serving the country. The film portrays his courage, dedication, contributions and his commendable achievements as an army personality. Though Meghna Gulzar presented the period 1930 to 1970 effectively, and captured the war sequences – significant events in his career, the storytelling lacked cohesion, and connectivity. The filmmaker failed to tie all the elements to a unified whole.

Sam Bahadur with its 150-minute run time, suffers from dullness of the narrative and in need of depth. Aside from Vicky Kaushal, the noteworthy performances by the ensemble cast including Sanya Malhotra, Fatima Sana Shaikh, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub attempted to hold the movie together.

Another user @Rashmi_Gutta wrote: “Vicky Kaushal”s performance in Sam Bahadur as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw is a masterclass in acting. A portrayal that captures the soul and secures him his 2nd National Award.”
