A controversy (mostly among Vijay fans and their rival groups) has surfaced online today. The reason for the row involves Leo and Master actor Thalapathy Vijay. Tamil superstar Vijay paid his respects to the late actor-politician Vijayakanth at Island Ground, Chennai, on Friday. Vijayakanth, the former DMDK president and actor had passed away after testing positive for COVID-19 on Thursday at the age of 71.
A recent video has come to the light online showing an incident where Vijay was attacked by an unidentified person. In the video shared by a fan page on X (formerly Twitter), the actor is seen moving towards his vehicle amid a crowd of fans. Suddenly, a slipper is thrown at him, hitting his neck. Without looking back, Vijay continues walking, while his bodyguard attempts to clear a path for him. The accompanying text to the clip states, “Actor Vijay was attacked by some unidentified persons at the Vijayakanth funeral site.”
In another video shared online, it is visible that one person who is standing with the superstar collecting the slipper and throwing it back to the side from where it came from.

Tamil movie fandom, which is famous for its fan associations, suddenly came alive as the videos started doing rounds online. According to some fan accounts, the Vijay fans have denied the existence of such video and that is why they had to post it online!!! Some fans took video cuts from all dimensions and started to showcase how the slipper was hit the superstar.
Some alleged that Vijay was hit with the slipper because of the resentment amongst the Vijayakanth fans and followers because The Beast star never calling on the late actor-politician after he was hospitalised.
The legend in Tamil movie industry goes like: It was Vijayakanth who once helped the current superstar Vijay’s almost doomed career to survive. ‘Naalaiya Theerpu’, the debut movie of Vijay directed by his father S. A. Chandrasekhar had flopped in box office and Vijay was looking at an early exit in Tamil film industry. Then ‘Sendhoorapandi’ happened. In which, after Chandrashekhar’s request, Vijayakanth acted as Vijay’s character without accepting remuneration. The movie went on to become a box office hit and there started the story of Thalapathy Vijay.
“Vijayakanth did a great favour to my son. Had he not helped back then, Vijay’s fate would have been a different one,” Chandrasekhar had reportedly said.
