The recent reunion of the acclaimed trio Pandit Vikku Vinayakram, John Mclaughlin and Ustad Zakir Hussain won the hearts of million. The Indian fusion band Shakti, which recently made heads turn with it’s Grammy win, has once again touched the hearts of fans with the melodious reunion of its members. The viral video shows the heartfelt greetings and exchange of love between the trio. The meeting of the maestros is a testament of how arts binds and bonds people across the Seven Seas, as aptly observed by actor Adil Hussain.

The 1973 band was formed by the English guitarist John McLaughlin, Indian violin player L. Shankar, percussionists Zakir Hussain (on Tabla) and T. H. “Vikku” Vinayakram (on Ghatam). Their 1977 album Natural Elements recorded with Shankar, Hussain and Vinayakram is still the one which stays close to the band.

The band was reformed in 2020, six years after the tragic loss of Mandolin U. Shrinivas in 2014. They reconstituted, convening with violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan for two sold-out concerts. In June 2023, Shakti released their first ‘This Moment’. ‘This Moment’ offers a set of eight new compositions and performances.
The album consists of eight tracks, including Shrini’s Dream, Bending the Rules, Karuna, Giriraj Sudha, Mohanam and Las Palmas. In 2024, the band won the Grammy award for the Best Global Music Album for their melodious creation This Moment.
