Yati Narasinghanand, who made headlines for his open calls for violence against Muslims, once again made hate evoking speech against Muslims, whom he referred to as “Jihadis”. This time he made reference to Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s movie, Animal.
He said Animal must be watched at least once, and went on to say that in the movie, among three brothers, one became Hindu, one became Sikh and the other became Muslim. The son of the brother who became Muslim had only one motto in the film, that is to kill the Hindu family and loot their assets, according to Narasinghanand. He said the story of Animal is true, as it is the truth happening in the whole world. The Hindu leader said when one of the Hindu brothers became Muslim, they can only see the women and wealth in a house.
Earlier, it was observed by Aditya Menon of The Quint that Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s movie, Animal, somehow perpetuates the idea of Islamophobia. An article by Mr Menon put forward that the strict father in the film only gets healed only when the protagonist, Ranbir Kapoor’s character, comes home after slaying his Muslim cousin’s head. The Muslim cousin was also built in the “usual cliché”, in which he has three wives, several kids, and carries out marital rape. According to the report, the movie mentions that the men in the Muslim brother’s family was converted to Islam only because they can have multiple wives.
In the observation from The Quint, Animal is “the Fantasy of the right wing incels”, who have deeper masculine insecurities and hatred for Muslims. The instance cited was when Tripti Dimri’s character, a Muslim woman, was asked to lick Ranbir Kapoor’s character, a Hinduised Sikh’s shoes to prove her love for him. That visual of a Muslim Woman submitting herself as a slave in front of a “Hindu Alpha Male” is said to be a very common meme in the “Zalim Hindu” and “Zalim Pundit” genres of semi-pornographic pages on social media platforms which are reported to be run by “pro-Hindutva incels”. In that way, Animal becomes landmark in the way ‘Kerala Story’ and ‘Kashmir Files’ became, for their depiction of Islamophobic story lines.
