A cyclonic storm that is developing in the Bay of Bengal is likely to reach the coast of West Bengal and the adjoining Bangladesh on May 26th. The cyclonic storm is likely to hit the Indian and Bangladesh coast as a severe cyclone, said the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The cyclone will be called as Remal, said media report.
Earlier on Thursday, the Department has warned that a well-marked-low pressure (WML) system existing in the Bay of Bengal is likely to concentrate into a depression on Friday and thereafter into a cyclonic storm over east-central Bay of Bengal the next day.
Today, the Met Department said the WML concentrated to Depression over central Bay of Bengal(BoB) at 0530hrs of 24May, and added that it is likely ” to move northeastwards and intensify further into a cyclone over eastcentral BoB by 25 morning. Subsequently, it would move nearly northwards, intensify into a severe cyclone by 25evening”.

The Department also informed that the Depression, which is moving nearly northward, is very likely to cross “Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal coasts between Sagar Island and Khepupara around 26th May midnight as a severe cyclonic storm”.
It also advised the fishermen to stay away from venturing into the south and north of Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea till 27th May.
