'Naked Crepe', 'Dunked Rice Cake Delight': US Restaurant Calls Your Favourite Indian Dishes These

US Restaurant's Menu Describing Dosa As 'Naked Crepe' Idli As ... Goes Viral

An image of a US restaurant menu with Indian dishes has gone viral on social media, with RPG Enterprises chairman Harsh Goenka sharing the pic which described Dosa as ‘Naked Crepe’, Vada as ‘Dunked Goughnut Delight’, and Idli as ‘Dunked Rice Cake Delight.’

Sharing the picture on his X handle, Harsh Goenka termed the names “strange,” sarcastically stating that “khaane ka mazaa khatam” (The fun of eating is over), leaving the handle flooded with comments from the users.

“Who knew vada, idli, and dosa could sound so fancy? With these strange names khaane ka mazaa khatam! Agree?” Goenka wrote, sharing the menu.

Notably, the new makeover that the US restaurant gave to the South Indian dishes has pushed many to mark their view about the strange names given to their favourite food items.

Among the names, Dosa’s makeover as ‘Naked Crepe’ has been found more intersecting by the commentators, with some calling the new name of Dosa as an insult to South Indians.

Interestingly, many users took the alteration a bite seriously, describing it a part of westernisation of Indian stuff. A user, Vimal Wealth, said that after a few decades, these dishes may be served with these fancy names with westernized taste and people will prefer (to show off). “There is a possibility of current names and tastes being inferioritized by wokes/yo yo type people,” he wrote.

Another user wrote that Shakespeare lovers will say ‘idli, vada, dosa’ by any other names, but “May be Gen Z would eat them only if fancy names.”

Some of the users proposed the renaming of foreign cuisines. “We should rename foreign cuisine too – Videshi Rotla (Pizza), petiz pav (Burger),” sarcastically wrote a user.

Notably, amid discussions on the new names of Indian dishes, the price of the items listed in the menu also caught the attention of the netizens, with many pointing out that the price is “too high.”  The menu showed price of vada as $16.49 (approximately Rs 1377), the idli as $15.39 (approx Rs 1285) and the Dosa as $ 17.59 (approx Rs 1470).
