The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) in its recent study regarding the increased rate of heart attacks will soon disclose the results of study regarding the increase of heart attack rates after Covid-19.
The study which was launched in March after sending for peer review will be made public, says Economic Times. The recent incident of heart attacks during the Navaratri garba has raised its link between Covid-19. But the union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya issued a statement quoting the ICMR study cautioned severe Covid patients against hard labour and strenuous exercise which increase the risk of heart attacks.
As per the study conducted, Covid-19 infection may affect the artery wall tissue and the associated macrophages. The findings suggest that “SARC-CoV-2 may increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes by infecting artery wall tissue, including associated macrophages. This provokes inflammation in atherosclerotic plaques, which could lead to heart attack or stroke”, reports NDTV.
In the Navaratri Garba incident, at least 10 heart attacks were reported and the youngest of the victim was just 17. This alarmed the state health minister Rushikesh Patel and held a meeting with health experts and cardiologists.
In addition, since late 2022, there has been an increase in the number of incidents of persons in twenties and thirties dying from heart attacks. And most of them attribute these fatalities to Covid or its treatment.
When asked about the health infrastructure of the country which scrambled the Covid patients during the pandemic, the union health minister said that they are expanding the health infrastructure and promoting traditional systems of medicine.
As per the AIIM study report regarding India’s cardiac crisis said that only 10% of the emergencies reaches the hospital within an hour. While 55% of them struggles to understand what had happened and delays. While, 20-30% of them finds it difficult to arrange vehicle or the money for the treatment.
