"Denied Treatment": Family Of Boy Slept Outside Delhi AIIMS For Days In Cold, Draws Criticism

New Delhi: Sick patients who arrived at AIIMS Delhi amid sub-zero chills and dense fog were forced to sit, lie, and sleep outside the concrete ground of the hospital, prompting criticism against India’s largest and most well-known government hospital.

A viral video shows a boy and his family, like many others, compelled to sleep near the hospital, which reportedly handles 10,000 to 15,000 outpatients daily from across India. Though the AIIMS offers shelters like Vishram Sadan with 1,500 free beds and the new Ashray with 250 spots, plus app bookings and electric vehicle shuttles, the demand outstrips availability, leaving many on sidewalks facing rats and pollution.

Users on social media have voiced concerns over low public health spending while calling for better regional hospitals. The video shows the boy complaining that they were denied treatment for days. “Will treatment happen after we die? This Govt & Modi are useless,” he was heard saying in the video.
