As the contact list of the Nipah Virus infected reached 1080 in Kerala’s Kozhikode, the district administration extended the holiday for educational institutions in the district for another week.

This will cover all the professional colleges as well, district collector A Geetha announced in Kozhikode during a media interaction after a review meeting.

Ms Geetha has also said the administration has given instructions to education authorities to conduct the day-to-day classes in online mode.

So far, Kerala has reported two deaths due to the brain-damaging virus and a new positive case has been reported on Friday, taking the total number of infected to six.

Among the 1080 in the contact list traced so far by the administration, 29 people are from outside Kozhikode district; from Malappuram, Kannur, Wayanad and Thrissur. Among the 29, most people are found to be from neighboring Malappuram, 22.

According to an official, these people have been asked to remain in quarantine.

The health minister on Friday announced that 30 health workers from a private hospital in Kozhikode, which is considered as the location for the super spread, tested negative.
