This Indian Metro City Seems Fond of Backery Items

As the world abstains from refined sugar and processed foods due to health reasons, Bengalureans embrace them. Among 2,101 persons surveyed, around 31% are found to be fond of bakery items as they eat biscuits, cakes, and bakery products every day.

Only 11 percent of the respondents are undesired to have bakery products, and they don’t take such eatables even once a month. A majority of the respondents are having bakery items multiple times a month. The survey conducted by LocalCircles also found that 8 percent of participants prefer traditional Indian sweets every day, while 7 percent take ice cream daily.

Eating refined products is proved to be harmful to the body as it leads to many diseases, including obesity, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. This is because refined products are almost devoid of fiber, vitamins, and minerals and thus with ‘empty’ calories. However, the usage of refined oils, refined flour, refined sugars and refined grains is largely increasing.

According to preliminary research presented at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions in 2019, ultra-processed foods are directly linked to the deterioration of cardiovascular health. A study conducted by the researchers at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that ultra-processed foods significantly harm the heart. With every 5% increase in ultra-processed foods, there would be a corresponding decrease in overall cardiovascular health.

According to the American Heart Association, cardiovascular health can be improved by healthy blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose levels, avoidance of tobacco products, good nutrition, healthy body weight, and adequate physical activity.
