On Monday, the Bihar police arrested 17 people for allegedly impersonating candidates in the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) 2024. Out of the 17 people arrested, three were women.
According to the police, 12 individuals were arrested in the city of Darbhanga, while four others were arrested in Saran. One person was arrested in Begusarai.

The impersonation was detected through biometric fingerprint scans of candidates at the examination centres.
Jagunath Reddy, Darbhanga SSP, stated that the arrests were made after the police received complaints from invigilators and administrators. The identities of genuine candidates are also being investigated, said the police.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, some of the accused took Rs 25,000 to Rs 50,000 to take the exam on behalf of the real candidates. The report also stated that the police are investigating the matter to examine if the arrests were associated with any interstate cheating syndicate.
The four people arrested in Saran include Hare Ram Pandey, Jai Kumar Bharti, Suchita Kumari, and Vipul Kumar. They were arrested at different examination centres under the jurisdiction of Bhagwan Bazar police station.

The arrested individuals in Darbhanga have been identified as Sonu Kumar, Vimal Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Shravan Kumar, Ishwar Kumar, Dharmendra Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Raja Kumar, Sunita Kumari, Neetu Kumari, Gurusharan Yadav, and Shashikant Bharti.
CTET is an annual exam conducted across India for candidates aspiring to secure teaching positions in government institutions. In the state, the nationwide exam was conducted across 16 districts.
