Indore, Madhya Pradesh: Since the Pahalgam terror attack, reports of Muslim citizens facing harassment, assault, and discrimination across India have surged. In one alarming incident from Indore, a doctor allegedly refused treatment to a patient because they were Muslim. A screenshot of a WhatsApp conversation between the doctor and a prospective patient has gone viral.

According to reports, the doctor has been identified as Dr. Neha Arora Verma, a spine specialist and founder of Indore’s Shree Namoh Wellness. When a patient approached her via WhatsApp for treatment for a knee issue, Verma asked for their name.

Upon learning it was Farah Hussain from Maharashtra, Verma replied, “Am sorry we are no longer taking any Muslim patient at our center. Hope you find someone better in your area.”

Verma later shared the screenshot on Facebook, writing, “We have started this Change. When they can kill our people according to caste we are now denying treatment as per caste.” She later deleted the post.

Verma, who has over 12,000 followers on Facebook, holds a master’s degree from Sheffield Hallam University in the UK and specialises in orthopaedics, neurology, paediatrics, and sports medicine.

The incident sparked outrage online, with many calling for Verma’s medical license to be revoked. “The courts should take suo motu action and cancel her license to practise medicine. She can as well join the larger political hate band of hers…” wrote one user, while another commented, “And they call themselves doctors. Shame.”

In Kolkata, a gynaecologist allegedly refused treatment to a seven-month pregnant Muslim woman. A complaint was filed at the Maheshtala Police Station and the West Bengal Medical Council on April 24. According to the complaint, the doctor had been treating the woman, known only by her first name Konkona, for seven months. However, upon learning her full name—Konkona Khatun—the doctor allegedly refused to continue treatment, citing anger over the Pahalgam attack.

The gynaecologist later denied refusing treatment, claiming she may have made comments to her staff while watching the news but had not directly said anything to the patient. She also accused the woman of attacking her for “personal reasons.”
