AIMIA Chief Owaisi Condemns Maharashtra Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister For Their Remark On Haji Malang Dargah, Babari Masjid

Sharing news stories about a recently held religious gathering at Thane in Maharashtra, Asaduddin Owaisi, President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) raised his concern about the Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde and deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis “celebrating criminal acts and inciting people to commit crimes” against the Muslim community.

Maharashtra chief minister Shinde had on Tuesday sparked Haji Malang Dargah issue, which some right-wing groups claim “was a temple” by saying that the chief minister is committed to the liberation of the centuries-old structure.

Addressing a religious gathering in Thane district of Maharashtra, the chief minister said: “I know your feelings about Malanggad. Anand Dighe started the liberation movement of Malanggad after which we have started saying ‘Jay Malang Shri Malang’. I want to let you know that there are certain things that can’t be said in public. I know that there are certain beliefs that you have in your hearts about the liberation of Malanggad. Let me say this Eknath Shinde will not stay quiet till he fulfils your wishes,” Shinde said while addressing the “Malanggad Harinam Mahotsav”, The Indian Express reported.

The dispute on the Dargah started in the mid-80s when the local unit of Shiv Sena argued that the structure was originally a Hindu shrine of Nath Panth yogis and it also had started the campaign to reclaim the site.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis while speaking to reporters said that he felt proud and happy to have been present when the ‘Kar Sevas’ demolished Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992, Deccan Herald reported.

Slamming the two Maharashtra leaders in strong language, Owaisi wrote on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that men who have taken a constitutional oath feel no shame in targeting Muslim places of worship. He further pointed out that such acts were the “direct result of the civil and criminal Babri judgements,” which emboldened many to fume communal tension.
