Tamil Nadu: With Cyclone Fengal looming over southwest Bay of Bengal, the deep depression is expected to intensify and most likely impact the coast of Tamil Nadu by the morning of November 28. The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Chennai, issued orange and yellow alerts on Thursday.
According to the IMD, the depression is moving towards the north at 10 km/h and is located somewhere 470 km southeast of Nagapattinam and 670 km south-southeast of Chennai. Cyclone Fengal is expected to circumvent Sri Lanka.

Extremely heavy rain is expected to hit districts including Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai, while key districts such as Chennai, Kancheepuram, Thanjavur, Villupuram, Ariyalur, Chengalpattu, and Pudukkottai are expected to witness heavy and very heavy rainfall.
Authorities have declared November 27 a holiday for schools and colleges in districts like Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, and Mayiladuthurai. In Chennai, Chengalpattu, Ariyalur, and Kancheepuram, only schools will remain closed. Emergency services are on high alert, and disaster response teams have been mobilised across Tamil Nadu.
Chennai and other regions have been experiencing widespread rainfall since Tuesday morning. The IMD predicted light to moderate rains and occasionally heavy rains until Thursday.
Delta to Cuddalore belt continues to be in hotspot on November 27 as well. Nagai got heavy rains of 130 mm while Tiruvarur received 85 mm, Manameldu in Mayil dt 75 mm till 10 pm.

As the sea remained rough, fishermen stayed away from fishing in most of the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
With Cyclone Fengal expecting to hit soon, waterlogging, and damage to crops is expected. Heavy rain lashed the Cauvery delta region resulting in severe agricultural losses. Nearly 2,000 acres of standing paddy crops in Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Muthupettai and Thiruthuraipoondi.
