At Least 4 Died, 20 Injured As Several Coaches Of Dibrugarh Express Derails In Uttar Pradesh

At least four people died and around 20 were injured after 10 coaches of the Dibrugarh-Dibrugarh Express in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda derailed on Thursday afternoon, according to state Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak.

It is reported that the derailment happened around  2.35 p.m. the reason for the unfortunate incident is yet to be known.

The railway ministry has issued an emergency helpline number soon after the incident. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials concerned to deploy rescue and relief personnel at the spot immediately.

Terming the tragedy “extremely sad,” the chief minister wrote, “I pray to Lord Shri Ram for the speedy recovery of the injured,” in a post on X.

 

According to Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner, G.S. Naveen Kumar, a 40-member medical team and 15 ambulances are at the spot and more medical teams and ambulances are being rushed. Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) of Railway, Pankaj Singh said that railway team and doctors have arrived at the site with medical equipment.
The accident happens a month after the tragic collison between  Kanchanjunga Express and a goods train in West Bengal’s Darjeeling district caused widespread flak for the railway’s functioning. A preliminary report, released this week, stated that accident was occurred due to wrong interpretation of signals by the goods train driver, NDTV reported.
The report submitted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety also noted that there were lapses at multiple levels in managing the train operations  under Automatic Signal Failures, which led to the collision.
