At Least 25 Killed In Goa Nightclub Fire: PM Modi Announces Ex Gratia
A massive fire at Birch by Romeo Lane, a nightclub in Arpora near Baga in North Goa, killed 25 people late on Saturday night.
The blaze began around midnight, and the police control room received the first call at 12:04 AM. Fire teams, ambulances, and police rushed to the spot, and rescue work continued until early Sunday morning.
According to the police, the fire is suspected to have started with a cylinder blast. The flames began on the first floor and then spread through the building.

Many victims were found in the basement kitchen area, which had no proper exit or ventilation. Investigators said most of those who died were club staff who became trapped and suffocated due to heavy smoke. Four of the dead have been confirmed as tourists.
Goa DGP Alok Kumar said the fire was brought under control, but bodies were recovered from both the kitchen and the staircase. He added that the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who visited the site, stated that initial information indicates the nightclub had not adhered to fire safety norms. He announced a magisterial inquiry and stated that strict action would be taken against those responsible.

The Goa government has confirmed that six people are injured, all in stable condition and receiving treatment. The police have filed an FIR against the club owner and the general manager, and both are expected to be arrested.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragedy and announced ₹2 lakh for the families of each person who died and ₹50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. He also spoke to the Goa chief minister and assured full support for relief efforts.
