The Mumbai police who are probing the murder of the former minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique have said that the two suspects arrested belong to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Though the police have not confirmed its claim, the gang is yet to admit responsibility for the murder.
At least six of the bullets were shot at the prominent politician from the Ajit Pawar faction of NCP and four had hit him. Cops suspected it to be a contract killing. Meanwhile, the murder of the former MLA from Bandra West had sparked concerns ahead of the Maharashtra assembly elections.

The shooting, that coincided with Dussehra festivities, was carried out by three men. Two suspects who were arrested are Gurmail Baljit Singh, 23, from Haryana, and Dharamraj Kashyap, 19, from Uttar Pradesh, meanwhile, the third has been absconding.
During the interrogation, the cops found out that the gang had been conducting a recce of the shooting spot for nearly a month, reports NDTV.
The involvement of the Bishnoi gang was suspected as Baba Siddique had shared a close association with Bollywood actor Salman Khan who had previously received threats from the gang. As per sources, he was allotted with Z category security as he received a threat 15 days ago.
However, the politician did not receive any threat from the Bishnoi community, said police. Lawrence Bishnoi, who faces dozens of criminal cases, is currently lodged in a jail in Gujarat, but his gang keeps making headlines over ransom calls to businessmen. And Bollywood star Salman Khan has been on his target list over his infamous 1998 black bunk hunting case.

The central agencies are in touch with the Mumbai Police while the cops in Gujarat and Delhi are also probing the case.
Baba Siddique was a prominent Muslim leader from Mumbai. He was also known to be close to several Bollywood stars, including Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Dutt. He joined Ajit Pawar’s NCP earlier in February this year after resigning from the Congress.
