On Friday, the Mysore Darbhanga Express collided with a stationary goods train in Kavarapettai, Tamil Nadu, near Chennai. Police reported that a fire erupted following the incident, and several were injured, though no causalities were reported.

    • A passenger train travelling at 75 kmph hit on a stationary good train on Friday in Tamil Nadu at around 8:30 pm.
    • The accident occurred as the train entered the loop line instead of the main line following which at least 12 coaches derailed, leaving several passengers injured.
    • As per the initial investigation, the train was travelling at 109 km/hr when its crew suddenly felt a severe jerk, the passenger train entered a loop line and collided with a stationary good train on the same track.
    • A total of 12-13 coaches have derailed.
    • Routes of 8 trains were diverted due to the accident.

    • Teams from the MAS Division, including Sr. DEE (Deputy Electrical Engineer) and other officials have reached the site to conduct further inspections and ensure passenger safety.
    • Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin met the injured passengers who are being treated at the Chennai government hospital.
    • Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav had monitored the situation after the accident and he had also spoken to the railway officials and instructed them to ensure the safe transportation of all passengers to their respective destinations.
    • Southern Railway Manager R.N. Singh has said that the Mysuru-Dharbhanga Express entering the loop line despite having the signals set for the main line was “unusual”.
