"Everybody's Win": Dimple Yadav On HC Order Cancelling Teachers Appointment

In a significant verdict, the Allahabad High Court today set aside the selection list issued in June 2020 and January 2022 and directed the Uttar Pradesh government to prepare a new list for the appointment of 69,000 assistant teachers in the state. The cancelled list included around 69,000 candidates, and the Court’s ruling comes following allegations of students from reserved categories that they were not given the benefits of reservation. The students had approached the court, questioning the fairness of the recruitment process held in 2018 and 2019.

Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi called the ruling “a befitting reply to the machinations of the BJP government, which is tampering with the reservation system.” Underlining that it is not only the victory of thousands of youth like Amit Maurya who have been continuously fighting on the roads in winter, the congress leader said, but also the victory of every warrior fighting for social justice.

“BJP’s stubbornness to snatch away reservation has pushed the future of hundreds of innocent candidates into darkness. After wasting five years of hardships, those who will get jobs through the new list and those whose names may now be removed from the selected list, the BJP is the only culprit for both. The BJP government which is forcing those who ‘study’ to ‘fight’ is truly the enemy of the youth.” the Raebareli MP wrote in an X post.

Bahujan Samaj Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati also echoed Rahul Gandhi’s sentiments, noting that the court’s order proved that the government has “not done its work fairly and honestly.” “In this case, the victims, especially those from the reservation category, should be ensured to get justice,” Mayawati wrote in a post on X.

Reacting to the verdict, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Dimple Yadav expressed her hope that the people will get their rights and said the court’s ruling is everybody’s win and the state’s as well. “It is good because of the interference of the High Court that this recruitment will take place again,” she said, speaking to the news agency ANI.

The case dates back to 2020, when the result for the recruitment of 69,000 primary teachers in Uttar Pradesh was announced, with 147,000 candidates clearing the exam and 110,000 belonged to reserved categories among them. When the recruitment of 69,000 teachers took place based on the merit list, many raised their voice over the unavailability of the benefits under reservation.

Hearing the case, a bench comprising Justice AR Masoodi and Justice Brijraj Singh issued the order. Upholding a single-judge’s decision to cancel the January 5, 2022, selection list of 6,800 candidates belonging to the reserved category, the court asked the government to complete the process. The Uttar Pradesh government had said that the recruitment was conducted according to the rules.
