Deputy Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Arvind Bellad, slammed IT major Infosys in the Karnataka assembly on February 13 for not generating a single job at its Hubballi campus. Bangalore based software giant has acquired 58 acres of land in BJP leader”s home constituency. He even demanded the government to retrieve the land from Infosys since it failed to provide jobs to local residents in Hubbali.
It was during a discussion on local employment opportunities at industrial establishments, Hubballi-Dharwad (West) MLA said in the session: “Infosys took 58 acres in an industrial estate in my constituency but has not created a single job, only engaging in gardening and landscaping,” Economic Times reports.
Besides, in the X handle, BJP leader wrote: “Betrayal at its finest! Infosys promised jobs, but all we got were empty #promises and trees. #Infosys #Hubli was granted 58 acres of land which is in my constituency with the aim of fostering employment for the entire North Karnataka region, yet it has failed to deliver on job creation.”
“As a representative, I can”t face the farmers I pacified anymore. It”s time for Infosys to face the consequences and for the government to reclaim the land that’s rightfully ours,” he added.

BJP leader stressed that Infosys received land at a discounted rate of Rs 35 lakh per acre, compared to its original value of Rs 1.5 crore. He expressed his worry over convincing farmers to renounce their lands with the assurance that it would generate job prospects for their children. BJP MLA added that he even had convinced farmers to withdraw the court cases.
In response, Karnataka’s industries minister MB Patil ensured that he would investigate the issue; “If no progress has been made after land acquisition, we will issue notices and take action,” Economic Times quotes as he is saying.
