Moments after Narendra Modi swore in as the Prime Minister of the country for the third time, the BJP is witnessing a major setback with sexual harassment charges levelled against the national convenor of the saffron party’s IT cell, Amit Malviya, by an RSS member. In response, Malviya has sought an “unconditional apology” from the latter along with Rs 10 crore in damages.

Through his lawyer, Malviya sent a legal notice to Santanu Sinha, the RSS member, demanding the latter’s “false and derogatory” post on Facebook dated June 7, where he accused the senior BJP leader of indulging in exploiting women for political favours.

The legal notice, dated June 8, calls the allegations “extremely offensive” and “fatally injurious to the dignity and reputation” of Malviya. “Such malevolently malicious statements have been deliberately made to tarnish his reputation,” the notice stated.

Furthermore, Sinha has been asked to delete the post within the span of three days from the date of the notice issued, with the last date being tomorrow, failing which legal action will be taken against Sinha. An additional amount of Rs 10 crore has also been sought as civil damages for the “mental harassment, agony, and loss of reputation” caused to Malviya.

During a press conference held today, Congress leader Supriya Shrinate stated that, as per the allegations raised by Sinha, the BJP leader has been accused of sexually exploiting women “not just in 5-star hotels but in BJP offices in West Bengal.” The Congress leader further added, “The only thing we seek from the BJP is, justice for women.”

The Congress leader demanded that the BJP immediately remove Malviya from his position. “Today, we seek the immediate removal of Amit Malviya from his position. It’s an extremely influential position. It’s a position of power, and there can be no independent injury. There can be no independent probe. There cannot be justice unless and until he doesn’t get removed from his position.”
