“Buch Bachao Syndicate”: Congress Releases Investigation Into ‘Madhabi Buch Scandal’

Congress party has released an investigation video into the alleged scam involving SEBI chief Madhabi Buch. The first part of the investigation, featuring Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress’ Media and Publicity Department in charge Pawan Khera, looks into the institutional collapse that has “emboldened cronyism in India”.

The podcast shown Rahul Gandhi, Pawan Khera and the researchers discussing the ‘Madhabi Buch scandal’ with data and details.

Congress released the investigation days after Madhabi Puri Buch did not turn up at the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) meeting that had an agenda to question the SEBI chief on the alleged irregularities. The parliamentary panel led by Congress leader KC Venugopal had summoned Ms Buch after allegations of “conflict of interest” emerged involving her and her family.

After Ms Buch refused to turn up, the Congress party accused the Narendra Modi government of protecting her to avoid the heat on protagonists of the “nexus”.

“We have an economy that no longer encourages competition but rather fosters monopolies. Small and medium businesses are bogged down by regressive tax systems, entrepreneurs struggle to get access to capital and retail investors stare at an uncertain and unprotected market. This is not the kind of atmosphere that enables prosperity and innovation,” a Congress release said after adding that the Madhubi Buch scandal is an example of what happens when institutions collapse and cronyism takes over.

“Those entrusted with protecting common Indians and their investments have abrogated their responsibilities and are indulging in wide scale corruption and malpractice. The information that has come out so far on this scandal is just the tip of the iceberg. There is a larger syndicate at play protecting the corrupt,” the statement said.
