Case Registered Against Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna Over Alleged Death Threat To Rahul Gandhi

Udupi, Karnataka: Karnataka police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna for allegedly making inflammatory and hate-filled remarks against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the party. The Udupi Town Police registered a case under Sections 57, 192, 196(2), 352, 353(2) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The police classified the BJP MLA’s statement as inflammatory and hate speech. The BJP leader had made the inflammatory remarks against the Congress and CJP during the recent protests over NEET paper leak.

Addressing his supporters, Suvarna had said that they would destroy Congress, Rahul Gandhi and his dynasty just like in 1992 Babari masjid demolition. He further went on to say that the Congress leader was on drugs 24 hours a day and he could not distinguish between right and wrong.

The took the case based on a complaint filed by Udupi District Congress president Ashok Kodavoor. The remarks sparked widespread criticism, following which Congress leaders visited the Udupi Town Police Station around midnight and submitted a complaint to Police Inspector.
