New Delhi: After nine people are dead and 20 injured following a blast in a car near Red Fort on Monday evening, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday handed over the probe to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

The central agency, which is mandated to probe terror cases, took over the case after Union Home Minister Amit Shah reviewed the situations. He had reviewed the security situation in the national capital following the tragic blast.

The investigators have taken several people, including three doctors from Faridabad’s Al-Falah University, into custody. The blast took place in a slow-moving car at a traffic signal near the Red Fort metro station.

Police had invoked UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) sections after forensic evidence and intelligence inputs pointed to possible terror links.

Notably, investigators have found a potential link between the Red Fort blast and the white collar terror networks. The car in which the explosion took place was owned by a doctor, Dr Umar Mohammad — from south Kashmir’s Pulwama — who was allegedly a part of the terror module.
