Delhi Red Fort Blast: Owner Of Car Linked To White collar Terror Module: Report

New Delhi: A day after the tragic blast that took place in a car near Red Fort on Monday evening, the police have invoked UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act) sections after forensic evidence and intelligence inputs pointed to possible terror links.

Officials on Tuesday took into custody the suspected Delhi suicide bomber’s mother, two brothers. The blast has left at least nine people killed and over 20 injured. The area around Red Fort, which is also home to the bustling Chandni Chowk market, is one of the busiest and crowded in the city.

Notably, officials have found a potential link between the Red Fort blast and the white collar terror networks. The car in which the explosion took place was owned by a doctor, Dr Umar Mohammad — from south Kashmir’s Pulwama — who was allegedly a part of the terror module, NDTV reported.

Officials had recently arrested two key members of the module — Dr Mujammil Shakeel and Dr Adil Rather—while seizing 2,900 kg of suspected explosives in Haryana’s Faridabad. The police, during the raids, recovered the suspect to be ammonium nitrate, which is used in fertilizers but can also be used to make bombs.

The development has sparked a terror probe under anti-terrorism laws with the vehicle’s owner detained and security heightened in major cities.

The “white collar” terror module includes radicalized professionals. Police and intelligence agencies have recently busted many of their operatives during raids at locations across J&K (Srinagar, Anantnag, Ganderbal, and Shopian) and Faridabad over the past few days.
