Demand For Action Against Actress Sreelekha Mitra Over "Offensive Remark" (Photo on X @SreelekhaSpeaks)
Many on social media called on the Kolkata police for not taking action against actress Sreelekha Mitra, who allegedly made “offensive remarks” against the West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC supremo, Mamata Banerjee, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, and TMC MP Mahua Moitra.
A pro TMC handle on X Sanghamitra Bandyopadhyay expressed her anguish, noting that it has been 24 hours since she lodged a complaint and no action has been taken.
Sanghamitra has also shared a copy of her online complaint, in which she alleged that the Bengali actress publicly insulted Mahua Moitra, linking her with Shashi Tharoor. Sanghamitra also noted that Mitra used abusive language against Mamata Banerjee, adding the actress’s quote, “Mahua Moitra and Shashi Tharoor are drinking Mamata’s urine, not Champaign. Next time, call me at the party. But make sure Shashi will be there.”

In her complaint against the actress, Sanghamitra highlighted that the Mitra’s comments were not only disrespectful but also indicative of a regressive mindset, “especially towards the only woman chief minister of India and a woman MP elected by the people.”
She further noted that the actress also insulted a female journalist who protested against her remark. She then urged the police to take immediate action against Mitra, emphasising that such behavior should not be tolerated in public discourse. She said she has all the screenshots, links and will be provided when needed.

Sreelekha Mitra was in the limelight a day before after she accused Malayalam film director and Kerala Chalachitra Academy chairman Ranjith of misbehaving in 2009. The allegation of inappropriate touch during a discussion on Ranjith’s film ‘Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha’ comes as the Hema Committee report disclosed shocking revelations about the sexual exploitation in the Malayalam film industry. However, the director had denied the allegations, adding that the actress had come to the audition and was not considered because she was not suitable for the role.
