First Session Of The 18th Lok Sabha Begins Today

The first Parliamentary session of the newly-formed government after the 2024 Lok Sabha election started today.

Since the Lok Sabha speaker will be elected on June 26, until then the Pro-Tem Speaker will preside over the first few sessions of the 18th Lok Sabha and manages the election for the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

The session started as BJP MP Bhartruhari Mahtab was first administered oath as pro-tem Speaker at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Following Mahtab called upon the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take oath as member of the House.

PM Modi is expected to announce the name of  the new Lok Sabha Speaker on Wednesday, two days after the first sitting of the newly elected 18th Lok Sabha. When the speaker is being elected, the Pro-Tem speaker’s post, a temporary one will cease to exist.

Meanwhile, Opposition is aiming to address several concerning issues in the parliament, especially the alleged irregularities in competitive NEET and NET exams.

President Droupadi Murmu will address a joint sitting of the both houses, Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, on June 27. In the speech, she will outline the new government’s framework for the upcoming five years.

This first session of the 18th Lok Sabha will conclude on July 3.
