Former Cricketer Salil Ankola’s mother was found dead at Pune residence on Friday. The incident had reportedly taken place at her daughter’s flat in the Parbhat Road area, a prime residential neighbourhood close to the Film and Television Institute of India.
The police officials said the cricketer’s mother was found as her throat slit, and a kitchen knife and a screwdriver were found lying nearby, reports Times of India.

Mala Ankola is the wife of late IPS officer Ashok Ankola. “The incident came into light after her maid came to the flat and then alerted relatives after no one answered the door,” the police official said.
“When the door was opened, the woman was found dead with her throat slit. Prima facie, it looks like the injuries are self-inflicted. However, we are probing the case from all angles,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Sandip Singh Gill.
She has been suffering from some mental ailment, Mr Gill added. Salil who was not in Pune at the time of the incident posted his mother’s photograph on social media with a note that read, “Goodbye Mom”.
Mala had been living with her daughter who had left the to work around 7:30 am on Friday. As of now, the police have registered an accidental death case. Her daughter has said that she has been undergoing psychiatric treatment. The police officials had said that no suicide note had been found in the flat.
Senior Inspector Girisha Nimbalkar of Deccan Gymkhana police said that there was no forced entry into the flat and nothing was stolen. However, the police noted that the CCTV cameras in the building were not working.
When questioned Umesh Singh, who brings milk and vegetables to her house said that he had delivered the milk, flowers and vegetables to her house around 10 am on Friday and Mala had opened the door to receive the items.
The watchman, Mahesh Raviraj said that their domestic help reached flat at usual around 11:30 am. No one responded from inside to her repeated ringing of the bell, he added. “The maid then called the elderly woman’s daughter who also tried to call her mother on her cellphone but there was no response. A relative stays in a nearby building. She contacted their old helper Nagesh Pujari and told him to reach the flat with the spare keys”.

When Pujari unlocked the door and entered the flat, they saw the elderly woman’s body lying injured and motionless on the floor. They immediately rushed her to the hospital, however, doctors who examined her declared dead.
