A 21 year old woman was allegedly gang raped by three men, who posed as human rights activist in Pune on Thursday. The friend, who accompanied the woman to Bopdev Ghat area of the city, was also allegedly beaten up by the accused during the incident.
Police have arrested one of the suspects during the investigation and identified a 36 year old resident of Kondhwa, named Raje Karim Pathan. The search for the other two accused is under progress.

The incident reportedly happened when the woman and her friend were in the Bopdev Ghat area. One of the three accused, Pathan. approached them in a car, posing himself as a human rights activist. The accused claimed that couples were prohibited in the area and took photos of the duo.
Pathan allegedly threatened the woman and forced her into his car. Taking her to a different location, the accused, along with his two friends, stopped the car and brutally gang raped her. The survivor’s friend was also beaten up by the accused before raping her, according to reports.
The accused later left her and fled the scene of the crime. The woman was found injured and has been admitted to a hospital. A complaint was filed with the Kondhwa police this morning, which eventually lead to Pathan’s arrest.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the woman suffered several injuries in her body. The case in now being investigated by senior police officers and teams from crime branch. As many as ten teams from the Crime Branch and Detection Branch (DB) have been deployed to locate and arrest the two remaining suspects.
